Overview
What it does
Flow Dynamics supplies UV-C coil disinfection and in-duct UV systems for AHUs across the UAE. UV-C systems use 254 nm germicidal ultraviolet light to inactivate bacteria, viruses, and mould on cooling coils and in moving airstreams. UV-O (ozone-generating) lamps add 185 nm output to break down grease molecules in kitchen ducts, reducing fire risk and odor. Both technologies are chemical-free, require no consumables beyond lamp replacement, and operate continuously while the HVAC system is running, a strong match for hospitals, food plants, and any Gulf building where coil biofilm or greasy duct build-up is a chronic issue.
How it works
The working principle
UV-C lamps are mounted downstream of the cooling coil so the lamp shines directly on the coil face and drain pan, continuously sterilising the wetted surfaces where biofilm would otherwise grow. In-duct UV-C arrays sterilise moving air, effective dose depends on air velocity, lamp wattage, and reflective duct lining. For kitchen exhaust, UV-O lamps installed in the hood plenum emit a mix of 254 nm (germicidal) and 185 nm (ozone-generating) light: the 185 nm photons crack grease molecules into smaller fragments, and the produced ozone oxidises them further downstream in the duct.

FAQ
Common questions
What does UV-C on a cooling coil actually achieve?
It keeps the coil face and drain pan continuously sterile, stopping the biofilm that degrades heat transfer and seeds odour. Operators typically see cooling performance recovered and chemical coil cleaning eliminated.
Is UV-O safe for kitchen exhaust ducts?
Yes when engineered correctly: the lamps sit inside the hood plenum and duct, the ozone reacts with grease inside the ductwork, and interlocks shut the system down if a door is opened. It is an established de-greasing and fire-risk reduction technology.
