Ecology Units / MAFAHU

Multi-stage grease and odor control for commercial kitchen exhaust.

Ecology Units / MAFAHU

Overview

What it does

Flow Dynamics is an ecology unit supplier for the UAE, covering restaurants, hotels, malls and cloud kitchens. Ecology units, also known as MAFAHU (Mini Air Filtration & Handling Units), are self-contained, multi-stage exhaust treatment systems that clean greasy, smoke-laden air leaving a commercial kitchen before it is discharged outdoors. In dense urban areas across the UAE, landlord specifications and municipal regulations often make an ecology unit mandatory for any hood serving a restaurant, hotel, mall, or staff canteen. The unit reduces grease deposits in the rooftop stack, controls odor complaints from neighbours, and protects downstream fans from fouling.

How it works

The working principle

Kitchen exhaust first passes a washable aluminium or stainless pre-filter that captures coarse grease droplets. The airstream then enters an electrostatic cell where a high-voltage ionizer charges fine particles and collector plates pull them out of the flow. A bed of pelletised activated carbon adsorbs volatile odor compounds, and a final HEPA polishing stage removes the smallest particulates before the air is released. A control panel monitors cell voltage, differential pressure, and fan status, and signals when service is due.

Applications

Where it's used

Typical installations across the UAE and wider Gulf include:

  • Restaurant and hotel kitchens with tight discharge regulations
  • Shopping malls and food courts with shared exhaust shafts
  • Staff canteens in offices, hospitals, and schools
  • Ghost kitchens and cloud-kitchen facilities
  • Airport terminal food and beverage outlets
  • Labour camps and catering kitchens in industrial areas

FAQ

Common questions

When is an ecology unit mandatory in the UAE?

Whenever the landlord specification or the local municipality requires treated kitchen discharge, which is typical for restaurants in malls, hotels, towers and dense districts. We review your discharge conditions and confirm what the authority and landlord require before quoting.

What size ecology unit does my kitchen need?

Send us the application, airflow or demand figures, and any consultant specification. Our engineers reply with a defended selection, datasheets and submittal documentation. Sizing is always confirmed by an engineer, never by a web calculator.

How often does an ecology unit need servicing?

The pre-filter and ESP cells are washable on a routine cycle, typically monthly for a busy kitchen, and the carbon bed is replaced as it saturates. The control panel monitors differential pressure and flags service due, and we support spares and maintenance across the equipment lifecycle.
