Air Curtains

What it does

Flow Dynamics is an air curtain supplier for the UAE. Air curtains project a high-velocity downward sheet of air across an open doorway, creating an invisible barrier that stops outdoor air, insects, dust, and fumes from entering. In the Gulf they are standard specification for shopping mall entrances, cold-room doors, hotel lobbies, hospital wings, and industrial loading docks, anywhere a door opens frequently and conditioned air would otherwise spill out. A properly sized curtain cuts annual HVAC energy losses across the opening by 60–80%.

The working principle

A tangential or centrifugal fan draws air from the top of the unit and ejects it downward through a linear nozzle at 8–12 m/s. The jet impinges on the floor, sweeps outward toward the opening, and creates a pressure-differential wall that outside air cannot easily penetrate. Heated variants add electric, hot water, or refrigerant coils so the unit doubles as a space heater in cooler climates. Automatic door sensors start the curtain on door opening and switch it off shortly after the door closes, minimising energy use.
