Calorifiers

Indirect and direct storage vessels for central hot water systems.

Calorifiers

Overview

What it does

Flow Dynamics is a calorifier supplier for the UAE. Calorifiers are large, central hot-water storage vessels used in hotels, hospitals, labour accommodations, and high-rise residential towers, buildings with too much simultaneous demand to be served by point-of-use heaters. They are available as indirect (heated by a coil carrying boiler water, steam, or solar primary fluid), direct (electric immersion elements inside the tank), and mixed-fuel designs. Tanks are built to ASME, PD 5500, or AD 2000 pressure codes depending on specification.

How it works

The working principle

In an indirect calorifier, hot primary fluid, water from a boiler, steam, or glycol from a solar collector array, circulates through a submerged coil or an external plate heat exchanger. Heat transfers from the coil into the stored potable water, which stratifies into a hot layer at the top for distribution. A direct calorifier swaps the coil for a bank of electric immersion elements. Multi-source calorifiers combine coil and element so the building can use solar first and back up with electricity automatically. Insulation is sprayed polyurethane foam or removable mineral-wool jackets.

Applications

Where it's used

Typical installations across the UAE and wider Gulf include:

  • Hotels, resorts, and serviced apartments
  • Hospitals and large clinics
  • High-rise residential towers
  • Labour accommodations and camp catering
  • Mosques and community centres
  • Solar-integrated central water heating plants

FAQ

Common questions

Indirect or direct calorifier, which suits my building?

Indirect vessels pair with a boiler, heat pump or solar primary and suit central plants; direct electric vessels suit buildings without a primary heat source. Dual-source designs run solar first with automatic electric backup.

What capacity calorifier does my project need?

Send us the application, airflow or demand figures, and any consultant specification. Our engineers reply with a defended selection, datasheets and submittal documentation. Sizing is always confirmed by an engineer, never by a web calculator.

What pressure codes do your calorifiers meet?

Vessels are built to ASME, PD 5500 or AD 2000 depending on your specification, with 6, 8 or 10 bar ratings, and the code certification ships with the submittal pack.
