Smoke Exhaust Fans
F300 and F400 rated fans for life-safety smoke management.
Overview
What it does
Flow Dynamics supplies smoke exhaust fans across the UAE for car park ventilation, stairwell pressurisation and atrium smoke clearance. Smoke exhaust fans keep escape routes usable by extracting smoke from stairwells, corridors, atria, and car parks during a fire. UAE Civil Defence and GCC codes require these fans to be certified for continuous operation at elevated temperatures, typically F300 (300 °C for 2 hours) or F400 (400 °C for 2 hours) to EN 12101-3. Flow Dynamics supplies both axial jet fans for car park smoke ventilation and large centrifugal extract fans for stairwell pressurisation and atrium clearance.
How it works
The working principle
On a fire alarm, the building management system starts the smoke fans and opens the relevant dampers. A car park jet-fan network pushes smoke in a coordinated direction toward a large extract shaft, the jet fans themselves do not extract, they induce airflow. Stairwell pressurisation fans inject fresh air into the stairwell at a rate that keeps the core at positive pressure relative to the floors, so when a stairwell door opens smoke cannot travel in. Certified high-temperature fans use heat-resistant bearings, insulation, and wiring so the motor survives direct exposure to flue gases for the rated duration.
Applications
Where it's used
Typical installations across the UAE and wider Gulf include:
- Stairwell pressurisation in high-rise towers
- Atrium and mall smoke clearance
- Car park impulse ventilation networks
- Tunnel and underpass emergency extract
- Data centre and generator hall smoke venting
- Metro and public transit smoke control

FAQ
Common questions
What does F300 or F400 actually certify?
That the fan keeps running at 300 °C or 400 °C respectively for a minimum of 120 minutes, tested to EN 12101-3, so escape routes stay tenable during evacuation. UAE Civil Defence requires this rating on smoke extract duty.
Are your smoke fans Civil Defence compliant?
We supply fans certified to EN 12101-3 with the documentation UAE Civil Defence submittals require, and our engineers prepare the submittal pack against your project specification.
